The popularity of yoga breathing exercises is spreading fast especially since there are TV shows where practitioners are seen performing impossible positions, poses and bends. Although yoga is seen as an exercise, it also focuses on meditation and breathing so that not only is the body developed but also the mind.

Yoga breathing exercises have been in existence for 5000 years. Almost all religions perform this where they meditate. It began in South Asia where Buddhists and Hindus practiced it. Now, almost every one from different religions is aware of this and performs it for overall health improvement.

Yoga has three major structures and these are meditation, physical exercise and yoga breathing exercises called Pranayama. The latter helps practitioners to manage their breathing which would help improve their health. There are many people who inhale orally, suck in their tummies and slouch which does not let them breathe properly. This lessens the capacity of the lungs and the respiratory system to function as oxygen entering the blood stream is not enough. Toxins therefore are not completely eradicated. With the breathing exercises of yoga, one will learn how to breathe properly and do it subconsciously.

Doing yoga and its breathing exercises is not difficult as there are no special apparatus or devices needed. It also does not cost anything. What are needed are the knowledge on yoga and an area to practice them.

Yoga breathing exercises involves inhaling through the nose. This is the safest way to breathe because of the mucous membranes and hairs inside that filter oxygen inhaled. Any harmful particle is prevented from getting inside the lungs and inflicting damage to the body. There are practitioners that believe the life force is taken in when air goes inside the nose.

Breathing in yoga poses involves three types and these are higher breathing, middle breathing and lower breathing. The upper part of the lungs is used with higher breathing. The shoulders are elevated so that the chest is puffed out. One should not do this kind of inhalation because the upper parts of the lungs are the tiniest and they bring minimal amount of oxygen.

The middle parts of the lungs are utilized when one does middle breathing therefore it should also be avoided. The best type is lower breathing as it uses the lower parts of the lungs. These are the largest portions of the lungs and they take in the most amount of oxygen. This is done when the shoulders are not raised as one inhales and the tummy is pushed out with every breath. Every day, lower breathing should be used according to yoga practitioners.

Yoga has proven to give many benefits to a person. One becomes physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually developed when it is regularly done. In order to enroll in such classes, one can go to the local gym and ask if they offer them. If not, one can look for TV shows showcasing them. There are also books and magazines that show how yoga is done. 
It is important to always practice yoga breathing exercises to ensure that one has improved blood circulation which leads to better health.
